Bill Chafin: A Life of Public Service and Family Devotion

The recent passing of Bill Chafin, a dedicated public servant and loving family man, has left a void in the lives of those who knew him. Born on December 11, 1930, in Milford, Iowa, Chafin went on to become an attorney and cattle farmer from Russell County.

Chafin's passion for public service led him to be first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2013 and then to the state senate in 2014, where he won nearly 60% of the votes cast. Throughout his career, he remained committed to serving his constituents and advocating for their interests.

Beyond his accomplishments in politics, Chafin was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, who passed away on October 8th, 2022, as well as their three children, seven grandchildren, and a sister and brother. His wife's passing was met with an outpouring of condolences from friends and family, who remembered her as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Huntington City Mission in honor of Bill Chafin's memory. A visitation for family will be held from 1 pm-2 pm, followed by friends gathering from 2-3 p.m. Burial will take place at Maple Hill section of Docks Creek Cemetery, Kenova.
